Bio
For as long as she can remember, A.J. Montana has always had a fascination with the world of horror and all the gruesomeness that comes with it. We can probably thank her parents for that. After all, films and games come with an age rating for a reason. But that didn’t affect her upbringing in the slightest. Or at least, that’s what she tells herself.
Prior to her writing career (if you can call it that), A.J. was involved in the theatrical arts, having written and directed a theatre production. It did alright. Maybe she’s being modest, maybe it really wasn’t anything special. Who knows?
If she isn’t writing, you’ll find her at her computer, recording and editing games for her gaming YouTube channel. And if you guessed horror games, you’re most certainly right. Honestly, her childhood didn’t affect her!
A.J. has released two psychological thrillers: Rose-Tinted and Unsound Mind.

FAQ’s
Who am I?
I’m A.J. Montana and I’m a writer from Kent, England.
How did I become a writer?
I have always had an interest in creating my own stories, and I’d write all kinds of silly stories on scrap pieces of paper or on my mum’s old typewriter at the time. I also thoroughly enjoyed performing arts, and the two went hand-in-hand for me, as I much preferred pretending to be someone else than being me. Over the years, I’ve suffered from Imposter’s Syndrome, feeling my work isn’t good enough, and it has taken a lot of courage to finally share my work for others to enjoy. Although my work is currently self-published, I hope to one day go down the traditional route.
What kind of books do I write?
I write psychological thrillers, possibly borderline horror/splatterpunk. I have considered romance/erotic in the past, but I get bored and it usually turns gruesome, so I feel it’s best I stick to what I find natural.
Do my books need to be read in any particular order?
It isn’t necessary; however, there are links relating to events/characters in all of my books, so it may be best to read them ‘in order’, especially when they are all set during different time periods.
What order should I read the books in?
Currently, this is the order advised to read them in:
- Rose-Tinted
- Unsound Mind
Who do I get my inspiration from?
Much like many psychological thriller/horror fans, Stephen King is high on my inspiration list; however, I don’t have a go-to author who greatly inspires me. I find my inspiration comes mainly from the content of books/films, such as how gruesome Hostel can be, or how unnerving old films like Poltergeist are. I aspire to make people feel uncomfortable reading my books, just like how those films made me feel.
Where do I get my ideas from?
Anything can trigger a cascade of ideas for my stories, such as listening to a song or hearing someone make a throwaway comment. Sometimes, they come in the form of dreams, or develop from an old story I had long since put on the back-burner.
